May end up as being the cheapest Ultrabook on the market

A price war may soon start in the new born Ultrabook market as recent listing suggest Acer will sell the Aspire S3 for less than $899 (€660), which could make its ultra-thin notebook, the cheapest Ultrabook device in the market.

The listing strikes me as at least a bit odd, as notebook makers, including Acer, have been complaining for quite some time about the high Ultrabook component prices.

In fact, just recently, the company's president, Scott Lin said that Acer can't get below Intel's desired $1000 price tag with their Ultrabooks without a subsidy from Intel.

However, as far as we are aware of such a subsidy wasn't provided, so how does Acer plan to reach this aggressive price tag remains a mystery.

The Acer Aspire S3 can feature Intel Core i3, i5 or i7 ULV processors, SSDs up to 250GB, a 13.3-inch display all tucked inside a sleek and stylish uni-body chassis.
