A new version of the Acer Aspire E11 is now available

Back in July Acer introduced two budget notebooks with a fanless design, one being the Aspire E11 and the other the V11.

These are basically Chromebooks specification-wise, which run Windows 8.1 out of the box instead. The Aspire E11 and V11 are part of Microsoft’s assault on the Chrome OS budget-laptop market which has been growing quite impressively in the last year.

Anyway, what if you like the Acer Aspire E11 laptop, but you’d prefer to have solid state storage and not a mechanical hard drive instead.

New Acer Aspire E11 model goes on sale

Acer has your back, as the company has just pushed out a model with flash storage which sells for just $200 / €161.

The original Acer Aspire E11 also sold for under $250 / €201, but this newer version is lowering the price specifications even further.

Even so, you shouldn’t be expecting a lot of storage for this price. As with the original model, the new Acer Aspire E11 (ES1-111M-C40S) comes equipped with an 11.6-inch display with 1366 x 768 pixel resolution and draws power from an Intel Celeron N2840 Bay-Trail dual-core processor fitted with 2GB of RAM.

The original Aspire E11 was offered with a Celeron N2830 / Pentium N3530 processor fitted with either 320GB or 500GB HDD.

Well, now you have the opportunity to pick up a cheaper version with a 32GB SSD. Apart from what we already told you, the laptop also has a USB 3.0 port, USB 2.0 port, HDMI output, 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Gigabit Ethernet and an SD card reader.

The fanless lappy’s battery can sustain up to 5 hours of battery life, which is not a lot, but quite decent for this price. Naturally, the notebook has Windows 8.1 with Bing out of the box as default operating system.

RAM storage in the Acer Aspire E11 is upgradable

UMPC Portal is in the process of testing one such affordable laptop and has discovered the RAM is upgradable, while the storage is not.

32GB of internal storage might not be enough for more demanding users who need a lot of space to store their files and apps, but for those who want to use the Acer Aspire E11 as a secondary machine, the laptop could prove quite perfect for that.

Especially since, unlike in the case of Chromebooks, you’ll be able to take advantage of the whole slew of Windows apps.

With machines such as the Aspire E11, Microsoft hopes to take your mind off things from Chromebook. So would you choose a Windows 8.1 notebook instead?
