Now that the 4 of July is over and one with, IT companies can finally go back to their hardware-making, PC-releasing ways, which essentially means that the market may finally see the steady inflow of desktops and laptops restored. Sure enough, Samsung and ASUS have already said their piece, which makes Acer's move all the more logical. The Taiwanese company has decided to even raise the stakes somewhat by creating a netbook with better than average specifications.

The new entry-level mobile PC goes by the name of Acer Aspire One D255 and, though it sticks to the regular screen size of 10.1 inches, it isn't exactly as conservative when it comes to the internal circuitry. Granted, the storage, memory and graphics options are quite 'common', in a manner of speaking, but the CPU, the Atom N550 definitely isn't, with its two cores and clock speed of 1.5GHz.

The Aspire One D255 is practically based on the Aspire One D260 that their maker introduced last month. Its 10.1-inch display has a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels and is a CrystalBrite LED-backlit solution that receives its video from the Intel GMA (Graphics Media Accelerator) 3150 integrated graphics. Acer even threw in a 93% standard-size keyboard, for better comfort while typing. As for the rest of the feature set, 1GB of RAM is present, as is a 250GB hard disk drive, 802.11 b/g/n WiFi and Bluetooth.

The Acer Aspire One D255 is powered by a 6-cell battery, which means it should last for a decent amount of hours on a single charge. Unfortunately, the exact battery life has not been specified, nor has Acer revealed the release date or pricing details. Nevertheless, since Q3 has only just begun, it can be speculated that the device will become available sometime during the next three months.
