Sales don't seem to be as great as Google expected

We haven't heard all that much about Chromebooks after their initial release in the summer of this year, but Acer now takes this netbook concept back into the spotlight by lowering the pricing of its AC700 Chromebook to $299.99 from the original $350 (223 vs. 360 EUR).

The deal was spotted by the Digital Inspiration website, which has noticed that the Wi-Fi only version of the netbook is priced $50 (roughly 37 EUR) less on both Amazon.com and Acer.com.

The offer won't be visible until the product is added to your shopping cart, as before this both websites mention the previous $350 price.

The Acer Chromebook AC700 is built around a 11.6-inch LED backlit screen that has a native resolution of 1366x768 pixels and is powered by an Intel Atom N570 processor.

This packs two computing cores running at 1.66GHz as well as a GMA 3150 integrated graphics core.

In Acer's laptop, the Intel chip is paired together with 2GB of DDR3 system memory and the netbook also sports a 16GB solid state drive.

Other features include a 1.3MP HD webcam, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, a pair of USB 2.0 ports, one HDMI video output, and a 6-cell Li-ion battery pack able to provide 6 hours of continuous operation.

Acer hasn't mentioned why it has reduced the price of the AC700, but recently there have been some reports that suggested the sales of both Acer and Samsung Chromebook have been going slow, which could explain the price drop.

The 3G-enabled version of the AC700 doesn't seem to get the price cut of its sibling and retails for the same $429 (319 EUR) as before.

Samsung also hasn't operated any price drops on its Series 5 Chromebooks, but at the end of August it did slash 10% of the price of these devices.
