Gateway, now known as a subsidiary of Acer Inc., has announced today the release of its Cetrino 2-based P-7811FX notebook, designed for those gaming users that also take great pleasure in multimedia entertainment. The product has been released just in time for the "Back-to-School" shopping frenzy, which is a rather common strategy for almost every manufacturer out there.

As noted above, the notebook is equipped with the latest Intel technology, so it should bring to the table an impressive performance level, as well as a number of useful features. It is designed to meet the requirements of users who are looking for a solid mobile enthusiast platform at a rather decent price tag.

"The Gateway P-7811FX is a great choice for customers such as students and professionals who want a notebook that can handle all of their computing needs - from creating videos and playing games to tackling work, school and home projects," said Todd Titera, senior manager, notebook product management. "And while the new notebook is ideal for demanding gamers and enthusiasts who want the latest technology, its affordable price also makes it perfect for digital media hobbyists and casual PC game players." he added.

Performance-wise, the P-7811FX is powered by a 2.26GHz Core 2 Duo P8400 processor, with 3MB of L2 cache, and a high FSB of 1066MHz. It packs a maximum memory of 4GB and an impressive 200GB of storage space on a SATA hard drive. As far as graphics go, the 17-inch widescreen display is powered by an NVIDIA 9800M GTS graphics solution, with 512MB of GDDR3 discrete graphics memory. Consequently, we might say that, despite NVIDIA's recent issues with mobile graphics chips, it still looks like almost every other major notebook vendor is releasing products powered by some of the latest GeForce graphics.

The notebook is equipped with an impressive number of connectivity options, including three USB 2.0 ports, a 5-in-1 media card reader, IEEE 1394 port and even an eSata port for external storage devices. There's also a 1.3MP camera to enable users to fully enjoy video conferencing, video emails and still photos.

For a MRSP of $1399.99, Gateway's P-7811FX is already available at Best Buy, equipped with a Windows Vista operating system.
