Developers looking to access Access Synergy DBMS Databases from .NET applications and Visual Studio 2008 now have the Synergy/DE Data Provider for .NET for that specific purpose. Synergex delivered the Synergy/DE Data Provider for .NET in mid-June 2009, indicating that the release came with support for the following operating systems: Windows Vista with Service Pack 1 and SP2, Windows XP SP3, Windows 2003
SP2 and Windows Server 2008 SP2 and later (which is not the case for the time being).

“It is my pleasure to announce that Synergex has released their Synergy/DE Data Provider for .NET with support for the Entity Framework. The Synergy/DE Data Provider for .NET enables developers to access Synergy DBMS databases from .NET applications and Visual Studio 2008 and to take advantage of the Entity Framework and LINQ,” revealed Elisa Flasko, program manager, Data Programmability. “Congratulations to everyone at Synergex who contributed to the release!”

Synergex explained that, via the Synergy/DE Data Provider for .NET, customers would be able to tap into Synergy DBMS Databases through .NET DataSets and EDMs. The release also brings to the table a DDEX provider, essentially a Visual Studio plug-in that has been designed in order to streamline the process of developing Visual Studio data connections associated with Synergy DBMS databases.

“The ADO.NET Entity Framework is the next data-access technology from Microsoft and is Microsoft's first full-fledged move into object-relational mapping (ORM). It simplifies data access by using entity data models (EDMs), which are conceptual models that present relational data as objects that can be customized to reflect the objects in the programming domain. EDMs can be queried using Entity SQL or LINQ, which supports IntelliSense, and Visual Studio 2008 can validate queries written against EDMs at compile-time,” Synergex explained.
