Mamma.com, a provider of search technology for the Internet and desktop space, announced an add-on for its Copernic Desktop Search product targeted at the mobile phone users community. The plug-in allows users to search and access their emails, files, music, pictures, videos and other content stored on the PC, remotely via any mobile device.

The Mobile Plug-in for Copernic Desktop Search is easy to install and requires no special configuration from the user. After the plug-in is installed, all that the user needs to do is visit mobile.copernic.com using the mobile device's Internet browser and log in to access the computer's content, including documents, emails, email attachments, pictures, music, movies and contacts, that are indexed for easy retrieval. The plug-in features a friendly user interface and is able to adapt the content of documents for quick viewing on mobile devices. For example, a PDF document stored on the PC is automatically converted and displayed on the phone without any software installation required. The found items are previewed with text excerpts, picture thumbnails and metadata. The users can also download remote files and instantly dial phone numbers found in address books.

"We are very proud of this new technology as it supports our continued efforts in providing very innovative products. From a users perspective, the ability to search and access all their digital media and files stored on their PC, anywhere, anytime, regardless of the size of their mobile device memory and without synching in advance, is a new and exciting concept that presents a wealth of possibilities", said Martin Bouchard, President & CEO of Mamma.com. "According to the Semiconductor Industry Association, 1 billion mobile phones were sold in 2006 and 2007 and numbers are expected to grow by 10 to 15%. Entering the mobile market represents an important strategic move that clearly supports our commitment of consistently delivering powerful and ground-breaking products."

The Mobile Plug-in is currently in beta testing and can be found HERE. It requires a mobile phone with Internet browsing features and, on the PC side, Copernic Desktop Search 2.0 or later (requires Windows XP or Windows Vista) and a broadband Internet connection.
