About two weeks ago, a 3-year-old pregnant pit bull named Petunia was found wandering the streets of Chicago's south suburbs.

Seeing how the animal had fractured teeth, internal injuries and burns on 25% of her body, veterinarians concluded that she most likely got hit by a car and that she had even been set on fire, Huffington Post reports.

Recent news says that, despite efforts to save her, Petunia passed away on Sunday, just a few days after delivering her 10 pups.

5 of Petunia's offspring were stillborn, yet the remainder will soon be put up for adoption by the It's a Pittie Pit bull rescue group.

Given the ordeal that Petunia was subjected to, several people now refer to this pit bull as “the face of animal cruelty.”

More pictures of Petunia are available on Facebook, yet viewer discretion is recommended as some of them are graphic ones.
