Kalypso Media, as the publisher, and Haemimont Games, as the developer, have announced that they plan to release an expansion for Tropico 3, called Absolute Power, which will be arriving on the PC in May for the price of 19.99 dollars. The expansion is set to make the island simulator more accessible while also introducing more options for seasoned players.

The Absolute Power expansion will deliver a whole new campaign that consists of ten single player missions on a separate map, the ten fresh islands also being available in the sandbox mode.

There are six all new buildings, including things like Garbage Dump, Marina, Small Garage, Children's Playground, which make island management more interesting and ten new presidential edicts ranging from a festival dedicated to the President to printing money with your face on it.

The political climate is also being shaken up by the unveiling of a new Loyalist faction, which is made up of presidential supporters that have no need for elections and want to see statues on every street corner, and by the addition of a fresh critical situation that must be resolved when standing with any faction is close to zero. One of the factions will also receive a bonus to the number of members that makes it more important as a power base.

There are also cosmetic additions to both the available Presidential avatars and to the villa he lives in and there are improvements made to the way the user interface shows the player information related to their popularity. There are also more radio announcements linked to the day-to-day life on the island.

The Absolute Power expansion sounds like an interesting proposition for those who want to return to the tropical islands and rule as a benevolent dictator or as a vote-addicted profiteer. It's not clear whether the expansion will also arrive for the Xbox 360 version of Tropico 3.
