Aaron Carter has taken some time off from making a comeback and reinventing himself as a pop artist to seek treatment for emotional and spiritual issues in a rehabilitation center, his rep says for E! Online.

A source tells the e-zine that the decision to enter the facility in Southern California was a personal choice and not a court-mandated one: Aaron wants to get better before he makes a comeback in the spotlight.

Furthermore, the same spy vouches that the issues Aaron is now dealing with have something to do with a substance abuse, though s/he doesn’t mention what this substance may be.

Carter’s manager Johnny Wright confirms that he’s been in rehab for the past couple of weeks now, but he insists the issues are more of an emotional nature.

Wright is the same man who was helping Aaron get back in the music game.

“Several months ago Aaron came to me to help him return to music and to restart his career. He has been in Orlando working on a new album and perfecting his live show and his physical body,” the manager says in a statement for E!.

“Aaron, understanding the challenges and hard work it would take to get himself back to the top, requested to take some time before we started to heal some emotional and spiritual issues he was dealing with,” Wright explains.

Carter felt that rehab was mandatory for his music career to take off again, the manager goes on to explain. This is not a setback, it’s just a minor bump in the road that will be overcome very soon.

“Therefore he has chosen to enter a facility where he feels he will get the guidance and cleansing he needs that will help him on the music journey he’s about to take. He asks that everyone keep him in their prayers and that they respect his privacy at this time,” Wright adds.

Carter has a long history with substance abuse, having also been featured on the reality show Celebrity Rehab 2.
