14 DAY TRIAL // Gecad Technologies announced on April 14th the release of AXIGEN Mail Server 7.1, boasting extended groupware and sharing capabilities as well as other important fixes and new features. "This fresh release takes business communication and collaboration up a notch by bringing new and exciting groupware and sharing features, on an even wider range of email and calendaring clients." said the AXIGEN Team in the official release announcement.
The two major changes to the powerful messaging solution are an improved Outlook Connector and collaboration and sharing capabilities with many clients including Thunderbird or Apple's iCal. The Outlook Connector can now work in offline mode, allowing users to manage their whole productivity suite (from emails or contacts to notes, calendar entries, tasks etc.) even when an Internet connection is not available. Other new features include SSL communication to server, speedier search and mail access, auto-preview, cached local .pst file, per-folder synchronization settings, read receipts and email folder size information in the "Properties" window.
The list of supported email/calendar clients with Groupware and Sharing functionality now hosts the following applications: Mozilla Thunderbird/Lightning, Mozilla Sunbird, Apple iCal, Outlook 2003 and Korganizer; these additions strengthen the freedom of choice for various customers, with different needs and requirements. Furthermore, Collaboration and Sharing got new features to improve productivity: shared folders, permissions for Calendar, Tasks and public folders, and Free / Busy status information.
Other improvements and bugfixes were made in Filtering, Administrative, WevMail, Core and ActiveSync areas: the SIEVE Unicode string comparisons have now full UTF-8 support; the "manageServerConfig" permission level has to be added to all the files that are to be updated through the CLI/WebAdmin interfaces; the "Notes" section of a contact can be 4KB in size; compatibility between VCard MIME messages and standard IMAP clients; synchronization between mobile ActiveSync clients and AXIGEN Outlook Connector.
The list of supported platforms was updated and now includes Debian 5.0 and Windows Server 2008; support for Windows XP Professional is no longer available.
