AVG Technologies, currently a leader in providing Internet security solutions and having more than 80 million users throughout 167 countries, announced on Friday the launch of a global search for finding an appropriate CEO that would help the company grow even further. Being presently privately held, the company's board of directors believes that correct organizational investments would enable AVG to be positioned for a public offering in the upcoming years.

The Chairman of the board, Dale Fuller, mentioned that the Internet security arena came with more and more opportunities as time went by. He also stated that, since AVG had gained so much popularity lately, the proper investments in additional resources would allow it to capitalize on increasing opportunities in the global market.

In addition, the board chairman shared that the current CEO, JR Smith, the person who has placed the company on its powerful growth trajectory and has been reaping success after success in the recent two years, would continue to be an integral part of AVG. “JR Smith has done an extraordinary job of bringing AVG to this point and he will continue to be a key player going forward. We are looking for an additional executive leader with public company experience and a proven record in taking a company of our size through the next phases of growth. This individual will enable JR and the executive team to be laser-focused on acquisitions, investments and business relationships that will allow us to move forward, while ensuring that we remain the strong, growing company we are today.”

On the other hand, JR Smith declared that he was very proud of having helped the company reach the state of performance and record growth it boasted at the moment, since this would allow AVG to move to the next level. Furthermore, the current CEO is confident that a strong leader will be able to increase the value of the company, whereas Smith could keep his commitment and create one-of-a-kind offerings in the field of free security.
