Although the security firm is quiet about its plans, a job posting on the company's website reveals that AVG is looking for a senior software developer who is familiar with the Mac OS X platform, according to The Register. AVG Antivirus is a competent security solution for Windows platforms, available in free and paid form.

Responsibilities for the full-time position include adjusting the basic system architecture of the AVG product to Mac OS X conditions, portation of the AVG technologies to the Mac environment and cooperation on portation of the AVG product to Mac OS X together with the remote control team.

Applicants with experience in programming for the Mac OS X platform definitely have priority, according to the list of requirements, as well as those with university education (the minimum is a bachelor degree), and those possessing good knowledge of POSIX norms, and programming for UNIX – “That means Linux, FreeBSD etc, kinds of systems,” AVG explains. Additional requirements include:

- good knowledge of C/C++;
- experienced in working with SCM systems;
- good knowledge of English, both spoken and written;
- willingness to work in a team, ability to learn new procedures and technologies, sense of detail, and reliability.

AVG, of course, plans to stick to its own end of the deal and offer a place to work in the Brno center, an individual education system (language, or special courses), a bonus system focused on keeping the deadlines, a range of employee benefits such as an additional week of vacation, contribution to life insurance, contribution to sports and wellness activities, etc.

Unfortunately for those living outside of The Old Continent, all positions where the job location is in Brno are open for EU citizens only. Successful applicants will be contacted to arrange an interview within ten days. Those who do not match AVG’s hiring criteria will not be sent a negative response. As an applicant for the job, one can expect a yes or, if AVG is silent for more than ten days, they'd better start applying elsewhere.

Not sure how good of an indication that job posting is for AVG's commitment to developing for OS X. That job post has been out there forever. That tells me one of two things - either they just can't find a competent senior developer (doubtful), they're hiring lots of them so they're leaving it up (doubtful), or they're just accepting resumes and not acting on it because they don't have any firm plans in this area (likely).

Hopefully there will be more cause for optimism in the near future than a dusty job posting on their website.

OK, I stand corrected. Here's some serious cause for optimism, directly from AVG...

(and yes, I realize that was three things in my earlier post.) ;)
