A new major update has been released for AV Linux

AV Linux, a custom Linux-based distribution, built from a handpicked selection of available tools and that uses Debian as base, has been updated to version 6.0.4 and is now ready for download.

AV Linux is an operating system built for a very specific niche of users, which is something that is rarely done today. Most of the Linux distros are usually developed for regular users, but this OS is made for people who want a content creation platform, whether it's about audio, video, or just graphics work.

To achieve this, developers have worked to implement many specific applications, which also increased its size considerably. Most of the apps have been updated with this version, so if you already have a previous installation of AV Linux, it would be a very good idea to update as soon as possible.

Some of the integrated applications include Ardour, Audacity, Blender, Cinelerra, HandBrake, Hydrogen, Kdenlive, LinuxDSP (demos), LMMS, Mixbus (demo), MuseScore, Openshot, Renoise (demo), and VLC Media Player, just to name a few.

AV Linux 6.0.4 is a massive update

The AV Linux updates don't arrive too often and the previous one was released all the way back in February. This means that developers had more than enough time to make a lot of changes and improvements to the distribution, and it really shows.

"For the best experience it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED to update to 6.0.4 by installing the new LiveDVD ISO Image. As a second option there is also a new updater script to update existing AV Linux 6.0.2 and 6.0.3 systems with the core updates and security fixes provided by 6.0.4. Download links for both the new ISO and the updater script are at the bottom of this post, but don't be in a hurry there is a LOT of stuff to talk about!"

"First of all... a honkin' huge thanks to rockhopper for taking my rough idea for an updater script and making it a reality (and then some!), and also for providing some last minute update packages as well as developing his amazing Shuriken Beat Slicer on AV Linux which is on the new LiveDVD ready for you to slice and dice 'dem beatz!," write the developers on the official forum.

Please keep in mind that this distribution is built only for 32-bit architectures and with PAE support. It's impossible to install on UEFI machines and it's mainly built in this way so that it can run on old computers. Also, for the time being, their servers are bombarded with download requests, so you might have some problems for now, but keep trying.

A complete list with all the changes can be found in the official announcement. You can download AV Linux 6.0.4 right now from Softpedia.
