Offer higher image quality and better viewing angles than TN panels

AU Optronics (AUO) has recently started the production of two new VA (Vertical Alignment) panels that will support 10Hz refresh rates while also offering improved viewing angles and color reproduction compared to the regular TN panels used in most 100Hz, or faster, computer displays.

The two AUO panels are called the M240HW02 V5 and M270HW02 V2 and both use the AMVA technology as well as 120Hz refresh rates.

Just like its name implies, the M240HW202 V5 measures 24-inch in diagonal while also sporting CCFL backlighting and a 350 cd/m2 luminance.

Its older brother, the M270HW02 V2, pushes the screen size to 27-inch while it also includes LED backlighting and increases the maximum brightness to 400 cd/m2.

The rest of the panel specifications seem to be identical with a native 1920x1080 resolution, 5000:1 static contrast and 12ms response time (grey to grey acceleration can boost this, but that is done electronically and not integrated into the panel), according to the PC Monitors website.

The number of colors supported seems to be set at 16.7 million, as it’s the case with other VA panels out there, and these are believed to achieve 8-bits per subpixel without dithering while also featuring 72% color saturation which equals to 72% of the NTSC colour space.

BenQ will most probably include these new panels in a series of monitors to be released next year, as the company is one of the prime adopters of the VA technology.

Furthermore, AU Optronics and BenQ both originated from the same parent company, namely Acer.

Right now, BenQ’s monitor lineup already includes an impressive number of models featuring AMVA panels which are part of the VW and EW series.

A firm release dats isn’t known at this point in time, but we expect more info to become available once CES 2012 opens it gates.
