The Central Bank of Nigeria(CBN) issued a report in which they reveal that fraud attempts on automated teller machines decreased by 98.5% in the last period.

Gaius Emokpae, the director of Banking and Payment Systems at Central Bank of Nigeria, stated that, thanks to the introduction of chip and PIN cards, the criminal activities that revolved around these devices dropped considerably.

According to Afrique en Ligne, the CBN is now working on measures that should better secure all types of electronic transactions, one of their main goals being to reduce the use of cash as much as possible.

They should be applauded for achieving such an important progress and hopefully other countries that still deal with a large number of ATM crimes will follow in their footsteps.
