In combination with ATI Radeon graphics cards, the ATI Catalyst 9.7 drivers for users running Windows 7 and DirectX 11 will deliver a seamless user experience, Nigel Dessau, senior vice president and chief marketing officer at AMD has revealed. Dessau has applauded the last development milestone of Windows 7, which was released to manufacturing on July 22nd, 2009. Following the RTM of Windows 7, AMD made available for download the WHQL-certified ATI Catalyst 9.7 Unified Driver for the latest iteration of the Windows client from Microsoft.

“Ultimately, our products don’t mean anything if they aren’t empowering the end user. And yes, that involves a lot of pieces, including the operating system,” Dessau notes. “That’s why I’m excited about this milestone. It’s the kind of feeling you get when you know something really big is coming. And I’m pleased to report that we’re making major strides already.”

Dessau opines that consumers are looking for a seamless and complete experience when they shop for a new PC. Just as additional hardware manufacturers, AMD has been intimately involved in building Windows 7. In AMD's perspective, the past six years’ worth of work with the Redmond company have managed to reach a new level with the release of Windows 7. Dessau enumerates the new multimedia functionality, in the context of the extra horsepower delivered by multi-core and 64-bit microprocessors, as well as the AMD superior graphics technology, as a new standard in terms of user experiences.

“One feature of AMD’s DX11-enabled graphics cards that is designed to enhance Windows 7 in all new ways is the compute shader, which allows our ATI Stream technology to help enable what I was getting at before – that seamless user experience. This technology enables a wide number of Windows 7 applications to be sped up in a way that’s completely transparent to users. For example, it can accelerate the conversion of video for playback on portable media players through a simple drag-and-drop interface. Something that consumers everywhere are used to taking an hour can now happen in just a few minutes,” Dessau states.
