In the wake of the recent Verizon iPhone launch, AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson told analysts the carrier would aggressively market Android smartphones this year.

While customers are waiting for the Motorola Atrix 4G and the HTC Inspire 4G, which are expected to be available on Valentine's Day, things are heating up for the carrier, which plans to launch 12 Android smartphones and no less than 20 4G devices in 2011.

According to an AT&T internal document leaked by Phandroid, the carrier has committed to offer 2 exclusive 4G devices in the first quarter and up to 20 by the end of 2011.

Furthermore, AT&T will expand its Android portfolio, which is expected to include 12 new smartphones in 2011.

In addition, the internal document includes references to a feature called “Simultaneous,“ which allows AT&T customers to talk and surf the Web, or check emails, or send text messages simultaneously via Mobile Broadband.

The documents also emphasizes that Verizon and Sprint do not support simultaneous voice and data yet.

Still, in the light of the new information leaked that suggests that Verizon will be offering simultaneous voice and data, it seems that AT&T's facts are not entirely correct.

However, Verizon also mentions that it cannot promise that the experience will be consistent when using voice and data simultaneously, so it advises its employees to not reference this functionality as a benefit during conversations with customers.

Currently, AT&T’s portfolio includes 7 Android smartphones: Motorola Backflip, Motorola BRAVO, Motorola FLIPSIDE, Motorola FLIPOUT, Sony Ericsson Xperia X10, HTC Aria and Samsung Captivate.

Rumors also point to the fact that Atrix 4G and Inspire 4G will be available from AT&T starting with February 14th and that employee training for the upcoming release begins Wednesday, February 2nd.

There’s no info regarding their prices yet, but both Android devices are placed in the high-tier range.
