Only one replacement unit will be offered to each user

Wireless carrier AT&T has officially confirmed plans to replace Galaxy S4 Active smartphones that have been water-damaged, following various reports from users who have seen their devices dying due to submersion in the liquid.

Although the handset was promoted as being waterproof, initial reports suggested that the warranty did not cover water damage to it, but it appears that AT&T and Samsung changed their minds about that.

Samsung designed and tested the Galaxy S 4 Active to adhere to IP67 standards for water resistance (1 meter for 30 minutes),” Samsung reportedly said.

“If your Galaxy S 4 Active has been damaged due to water exposure, bring it back to an AT&T retail store as soon as possible for a one-time exchange for another Galaxy S 4 Active.”

However, users should know that their devices will be replaced only if they were purchased from AT&T, and that only one replacement unit will be offered for any damaged device.

As PhoneArena notes, the fact that liquid damage was not covered in the warranty was somehow ironic, especially given the manner in which AT&T has been promoting it.
