Wireless carrier AT&T announced officially on Tuesday that it would add to its offering the Garmin nuvifone G60 starting with October 4. The new handset comes to the operator's subscribers with an easy-to-use location experience and integrates GPS navigation capabilities with voice, data and mobile web functionalities.

Personal navigation devices are already all about mobility and taking the Garmin experience everywhere as your mobile phone is truly compelling for customers who travel often,” said Michael Woodward, vice president, Mobile Phone Portfolio, AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets. “We expect the nuvifone to be the guide for local restaurants, the least-expensive gas and the nearest coffee shop for many customers.”

The upcoming nuvifone G60 is set to make its appearance on the market with a wide range of GPS capabilities, and will include preloaded maps and millions of points of interest (POI) for North America. All that a user might need for in-car navigation is present with the device, including turn-by-turn voice-prompted directions, re-routing capabilities, assisted GPS, and more.

In addition, the handset also boasts a series of other features to enhance the user experience even more, such as “Where am I?” which delivers the exact latitude and longitude coordinates, as well as the closest address, intersection, hospital, police station and gas station, all available upon a single touch of a button. Moreover, it also marks the position where it has been removed from the windshield mount so that users can easily find their car in a parking lot.

Other features of the new phone include an HTML browser, touch-screen virtual keyboard, a 3-megapixel photo snapper with auto focus and geotagging capabilities, free access to AT&T’s Yellow Pages, and a wide range of connectivity options. According to AT&T, the handset will become available for purchase for $299 with a 2-year agreement and after $100 mail-in rebate, both online via its website and at AT&T stores. The Nuvifone Premium Connected Services will cost users $5.99 per month after a 30-day trial.
