A few days ago, Amazon went live with its own portal of applications designed for devices running under Google's Android operating system, the Amazon Appstore for Android, which experienced some issues right from the start.

Among them, we can count the fact that Apple sued Amazon for the use of the “App Store” name for its portal, or that the portal went down soon after being launched.

However, the portal is now live, with a free application available for users each and every day, starting with the Angry Birds Rio mobile game, which was launched exclusively via this storefront.

Even so, not all users out there can access it, and AT&T's Android customers are among them.

However, the wireless carrier is hard at work with enabling its users to purchase and download apps from the storefront, and has already put up a special page on its website to inform users on the matter.

Those who would head over there would be able to register for being informed via email on the availability of this feature for them.

“AT&T is working on allowing purchases and downloads from the Amazon Appstore for Android in the near future,” the wireless carrier notes on the said page.

“Please select your AT&T Android smartphone from the list below and provide your email address so we can notify you after we have finalized our plans to bring the Amazon Appstore for Android to AT&T customers.”

Of course, this should not stop users from heading over to the software portal through the browser on their desktop computers, so as to make an idea on which applications are available for them there.

They should find roughly 4,000 applications in the said storefront, which by any means does not come near to what the Android Market has to offer, but which can be seen as a good start, that's for sure.
