Today, mobile phone carrier AT&T has announced the availability of the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich software update for its Xperia ion smartphones.

The update has been awaited for a long time, and it appears that Sony and AT&T were able to have it ready for shipping only now.

The new operating system flavor arrives on devices with improvements to the browser, a new lockscreen, and a variety of homescreen tweaks, the guys over at BriefMobile note.

Following the upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich, users will be able to easily create folders, while also enjoying faster WiFi and Mobile Hotspot speeds.

The update has already started to roll out, but it is available only via the Sony PC companion. Those who were looking for an over-the-air upgrade will certainly be disappointed.
