Mobile phone carrier AT&T is ramping up for the launch of a new, highly appealing smartphone on its airwaves, namely the Motorola ATRIX 4G, and it seems that the phone would arrive at various retailers too, and that the carrier's customers would be able to purchase it from less than what the carrier asks for it right from the start.

As reported earlier, AT&T is expected to make the new device available for purchase come February 22nd, with a price tag of $199.99 attached to it upon the signing of a two-year contract agreement with the carrier.

However, those who might consider the device too expensive would have the possibility to purchase it from RadioShack for only $149.99 with the signing of the said contract deal, but without a mail-in rebate, the retailer announced.

Before rushing to the retailer to make an acquisition, users should note that the handset requires a $15 per month or higher data plan, in addition to the usual voice plan they need to commit to.

One way or the other, the Android 2.2-based Motorola ATRIX 4G can easily prove a great device, especially with Motorola touting it as the most powerful smartphone in the world.

For those out of the loop, we should note that the handset comes with a 1GHz dual core Nvidia Tegra 2 application processor, which is complemented by 1GB of RAM.

The specifications list of this handset also includes a 4-inch qHD touchscreen display, 5.0 Megapixel camera with 720p video capture capabilities, microSD memory card slot for additional storage space, or support for 4G speeds.

The MOTOROLA LAPDOCK, available in select stores for $479.99, or at $329.99 when purchased with the ATRIX for $149.99, offers expanded functionality for this device.

Here are some facts about the package: - The MOTOROLA LAPDOCK gives you a full Firefox browser and access to web apps just like on a PC. No hard drive and no separate data connection or contract needed. - Together, the ATRIX 4G and Laptop Dock are thinner and lighter than standard laptops and netbooks with a backlit 11.6” screen, a full-size keyboard, and enough battery life for up to six hours of connected browsing.
