The handset can be rooted using the same procedure as for the international version

Users interested in tweaking their smartphones with custom ROMs should be happy to know that AT&T’s flavor of the HTC One has already had its bootloader unlocked, and that it has been also rooted.

In fact, it seems that the method used for this is the same as the one that can be applied on the international version of the smartphone, and that the ClockWorkMod recovery can be easily installed on the smartphone afterwards.

Those who will unlock their devices should also know that the process will revert the device to the factory settings, which means that users should back up all of their personal files, so as to make sure that nothing is lost.

All the necessary details on the unlocking and rooting of the device can be found in this thread over at the XDA-Developers. As TalkAndroid notes, users will proceed at their own risk.
