As the iPhone launch comes closer and closer the interest in the device seems to be growing. Also, the device is making more and more public appearances.

The CEO of AT&T Wireless, Stan Sigman, himself a graduate from West Texas A&M University (WTAMU) in 1970 was the recent commencement speaker at WTAMU in Canyon, Texas. During the occasion, he presented the president of WTAMU, Dr. O'Brien, with what he claimed was "the first iPhone in Texas." Dr. O'Brien even held the iPhone up for the crowd to see at the ceremonies. Exactly how or why the device was presented to Dr. O'Brien is unclear, but it is one more iPhone in the wild.

With traffic to Apple's web site skyrocketing in the past month, there are a lot more people out there eager to get their hands on the little device, but they will have to wait until the official release, next month. Both Apple and AT&T are busy preparing for the launch, including making some important last minute decisions. At the recent shareholder meeting in San Francisco, Apple's CEO Steve Jobs said that the company was still undecided on the openness of the iPhone. Letting third party developers make programs for it will undoubtedly increase both the functionality and popularity of the device; however it could also lead to complications, as well as potential security risks. On the other hand, success in the much talked about business market depends heavily on the software that is available on the phone.

With less than a month to go, we can expect the iPhone to keep making public appearances and for both Apple and AT&T to stir up the hype.
