Apple’s iPad 3G arrived in the US and already enjoys a series of connectivity options on AT&T's network, yet things seem to be a little more complicated when it comes to purchasing an international data roaming plan from the carrier. Today, AT&T unveiled the pricing for these plans, and those who considered taking the iPad 3G with them in vacation will certainly think twice before leaving home.

The “Data Global Add-On” options AT&T put in place for its iPad 3G customers include (via BGR): - 20 MB: $24.99/month - 50 MB: $59.99/month - 100 MB: $119.99/month - 200 MB: $199.99/month.

According to AT&T, users can purchase an international data plan when activating their domestic data plan, or at any given time they need this option. Moreover, the wireless carrier enables users to set the date at which the plan would be activated, which means that it won't start on the day the plan has been purchased. However, those interested in these options should make the purchase before going abroad.

The mobile phone carrier also notes that those users who would travel outside the country for more than 30 days, or those who would need more than 200MB of data with the plan, can choose to purchase more than one plan, and set them to start as soon as the previous plan is depleted. Those who are abroad and need to purchase a plan should do so online via a Wi-Fi connection. One other thing users should check on is the international coverage for their destination.

“Customers must have an active domestic plan if they want to purchase an international plan. Unlike domestic plans, international plans will not auto-renew. International data plans are only good for 30 consecutive days or until you have used all the data included in your plan. iPad Wi-Fi + 3G will work on Wi-Fi networks internationally. However, these networks are not part of the 20,000 free AT&T Wi-Fi Hot Spots for AT&T customers. You may need to pay for Wi-Fi access, depending on the Wi-Fi provider,” AT&T notes on its website.
