AT&T is quite eager to make sure that laptops are not restricted to a particular region by their broadband service, so it unveiled its three new devices that benefit from the AT&T DataConnect Pass pay as you go service.

“Demand for high-functioning, lightweight, mobile computing devices remains strong among consumers and small business customers who want access to the Internet while on the go,” said David Haight, vice president, product development, AT&T emerging devices.

“By offering the DataConnect Pass Plans, customers receive added value, choice and flexibility to decide when to consume data within the parameters of their personal budget, for a more consumer-centric and convenient experience,” Haight added.

The three machines that are part of this project are the Acer Aspire AS1830, the Acer Aspire One 532h and the Dell Inspiron Mini 10D.

The Inspiron Mini 10D is a 10.1-inch netbook that runs the Intel Atom N450 CPU, along with 1GB of RAM and 250 GB of storage for up to 8 hours on a single battery charge.

The Acer Aspire AS1830 is an 11.6-inch laptop running an Intel Dual Core i3 CPU, backed by 2GB RAM, 250 GB Storage and a 1.3 megapixel webcam, among other things, for up to 6 hours.

Furthermore, the Acer Aspire One 532h is a 10.1-inch netbook with the same Atom N450 CPU as Dell's machine, plus more or less similar memory and storage options.

There are two types of broadband connectivity plans that AT&T offers these two products with.

For one, users need only pay $39.99 for the laptops themselves, as long as they couple them with a two-year data service contract (200MB plan for $35 per month or a 5GB plan for $60 per month).

The other option is to pay their full starting price of $449.99 and go for the AT&T DataConnect Pass, which enables access to tis fastest service, plus WiFi.

There are three AT&T DataConnect Pass plan options, each priced according to the traffic they allow.

The DataConnect Day Pass (100 MB) costs $15, while the DataConnect Week Pass (300 MB) is priced at $30 and the DataConnect Month Pass (1GB) at $50.
