Most tablets these days are Wi-Fi variants, with the ones adding cellular connectivity facilities being a little bit pricier.

But at the GigaOM Mobilize Conference in San Francisco this week, AT&T senior vice president Chris Penrose announces that the carrier plans to offer an affordable plan for customers owning cellular capable slates. Who knows, some consumers might even end up buying such a model, reveals iDownloadblog.

AT&T will allow users to connect to the Internet for a fee of $5 / €3.65 day, but of course it comes with a limit – 250MB. You should be fine checking your emails and playing a quick game, but forget about streaming countless of hours of game.

On the other hand, if you have an AT&T compatible tablet, the carrier offers a three-month plan for $25 / €18 with a beefed-up 1GB of data.

Penrose explains why AT&T is pushing out such offers.

“We really think that a Wi-Fi only tablet is good, but it is not good enough. We’ve seen [the cost of including a cellular module] go down substantially over the past several years. Ultimately we’d like to see tablet manufacturers build just one tablet”

And such a tablet will definitely benefit AT&T business. The plans Penrose outlined will probably prove handy in settings likes Hotels, where Wi-Fi charges might be a little bit over-priced.

An official date for the launch of the service has not been made available yet.
