It looks like Samsung and AT&T are making a terrible team when working together. For the second time this year the carrier pushes an update OTA (over the air) and customers cannot install it.

According to the guys over at Phandroid, Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket owners have reported that there’s a small (21MB) software update available for their devices.

However, no one seems to be able to properly download and install this mysterious maintenance update. The carrier has yet to announce the update’s changelog. In fact, AT&T didn’t even bother to make the information publicly known.

This comes after AT&T and Samsung’s messed up Gingerbread update for Infuse 4G, which was pulled earlier this month.

There’s no telling exactly when the carrier comes forward with an official statement regarding this small update for the Galaxy S II Skyrocket, but we do not recommend installing the update for the moment.

I did the update and it crashed my phone. I got a white screen with "Loading" and a progress bar. Let it run all night (I did the update later in the day) and no progress. Tried taking out the battery, sim card, SD card, etc. to no avail. I thought I had a virus somehow. Called AT&T Tech Support and found out it was a back update push. They are sending me a new phone but I am also going to a local Device Service Center. I live NW of Atlanta so I have two options. Check out this link for a list of service centers. http://www.att.com/esupport/article.jsp?sid=KB91429&cv=820#fbid=h6OhTo6saeh . At the bottom of the link is the list of stores by state with directions. Unfortunately there may be no phone numbers (at least for the two I am trying to go to). Definitely better than a 7 day wait for a new phone. I pulled out my sim card an put it in my old iPhone 3GS to get some type of phone (I don't have a home phone). Hope this helps.
