Good news for AT&T customers who own the carrier-branded Nokia Lumia 1520, as Microsoft's Lumia Denim update is finally available for download.

Although it took a few months for Microsoft and AT&T to deliver the upgrade that brings major camera improvements, Lumia Denim has finally arrived for Nokia Lumia 1520 owners as well.

The rollout has started earlier today, but AT&T confirmed the information only recently on its forums. According to the release notes, beginning February 26, a new software update for Nokia Lumia 1520 will update the smartphone to Windows Phone 8.1 GDR1.

The update is only pushed OTA via Wi-Fi connection

The update is pushed OTA (over the air) in stages, so it might take a while until it reaches all Lumia 1520 units at AT&T. It's also worth mentioning that the update is approximately 578MB in size and will only be delivered OTA via Wi-Fi connection.

Although you shouldn't lose any data from the smartphone after the update, it's recommended to back up your media files to a PC prior to upgrading the software.

When it comes to changes, Windows Phone 8.1 GDR1 software update brings quite a few improvements. If you already installed the Preview for Developers version of Windows Phone, then the most important enhancements for you would be Hey, Cortana and Lumia Camera 5.0.

Both features come with massive improvements such as camera speed, improved low light image capture and many more.

If you haven't received any notifications concerning the Windows Phone 8.1 GDR1 update, then you should manually check for it by going to Settings, Phone update, and tap Check for update.

In case it doesn't show yet, then you should wait a few more hours and give it another go, as the rollout may take a few days.
