AT&T HTC Inspire 4G owners rejoice, as HTC has just announced the availability of the Android 2.3 Gingerbread upgrade for the smartphone.

Beginning August 8th, the update will be delivered OTA (over the air) to all AT&T HTC Inspire 4G users.

According to HTC, this major update is only available for AT&T HTC Inspire 4G customers and will be sent in waves, until all devices receive it.

It is important to understand that not all Inspire 4G units will be able to update at once, but those who get the upgrade will receive a notification on their device advising them of this update and provide instructions to receive and install it.

However, those who are still waiting for the notification to pop on their devices' displays may want to manually check for this update by going to Home / Menu /Settings / AT&T Software Update / HTC Wi-Fi software update / Check now.

In addition, the firmware upgrade can also be downloaded from the Taiwanese handset manufacturer website and applied to the device via HTC Sync desktop software.

Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for AT&T HTC Inspire 4G brings the following changes:

- New HTC Sense features; - Updated Application Tray features; - Updated FriendStream features; - Added Quick Settings in the Notifications window; - Improved Power Management function; - Improved media experience; - Various minor bug fixes.

It is recommended to perform back up before proceeding to the system update, as all information from the device will be delete in case users decide to manually update the Inspire 4G.

Obviously, the data can be saved on the microSD card, which will not be affected.

To manually update the AT&T HTC Inspire 4G smartphone simply download and save the HTC Inspire 4G for AT&T Gingerbread ROM update to the PC.

Make sure the HTC Sync is installed on the PC in order to run the update and connect the phone to the PC using an USB cable.

Once connected to HTC Sync, simply locate the HTC Inspire 4G for AT&T ROM Update that and double-click on the file to launch the system update wizard.
