Although Samsung Infuse 4G was launched with Android 2.2 Froyo on board, the handset maker promised it would deliver an update as soon as possible.

It took Samsung well over eight months to make its promise a reality as the update was deployed in early February. Alas, a few days later Samsung and AT&T were forced to pull the Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread update for Infuse 4G due to “an issue.”

The official explanation did not help shed some light on the issue that seemed to affect Infuse 4 devices: "Samsung and AT&T are aware there is an issue with the Infuse 4G update that affects a small number of users. We currently have put a hold on the update while we are developing a fix.”

Two months after these unfortunate events, AT&T and Samsung have reportedly started to redeploy the Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread update to all Infuse 4G owners.

The folks at AndroidCentral claim that the update is now available for download via Samsung Kies software desktop, so it's recommended to install the latest version of the synch application.

Keep in mind that AT&T mentions that this Gingerbread update for Samsung Infuse 4G will hard-reset the smartphone, so everything stored will be wiped. However, this hasn't been confirmed by users who have already upgraded their smartphones.

Nevertheless, we recommend Samsung Infuse 4G owners to back up their sensitive data stored on the smartphone just to be safe.

Aside from bringing the Infuse 4G to version Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread, the following new features and improvements have been included as well:

- Improved Copy and Paste functionality; - Redesigned Multi Touch Software Keyboard; - Download manager for long running HTTP downloads; - Improved power management and application control; - Notification Shade: “Flight Mode” added (“Silent” removed); - New Fonts options added include Choco Cooky, Cool Jazz, Rosemary; - Android Keyboard with Wider Spaced keys and Quick Keys at the top; - The name of the content provider will be listed on the widget list along with the widget name; - Traffic (Android) added to list of available widgets; - Downloads and Google Books added, - Promotional pre-load of Angry Birds removed.
