We reported last week that AT&T is likely to launch both Lumia 640 and Lumia 640 XL this month. In fact, the carrier confirmed several weeks ago that it would offer the Lumia 640, but did not offer any details on pricing options and availability.

Today, AT&T announced it would start selling the Lumia 640 XL beginning June 26. The smartphone will be available for purchase for $250 outright, about $120 more than the price of Lumia 640 that's now on sale at T-Mobile and Cricket Wireless.

However, customers will be given the choice to get the Lumia 640 XL for $0 down on an AT&T Next plan, paying $8.34 per month with 30 device payments on Next 24, $10.42 per month at 24 payments on Next 18, or $12.50 per month at 20 payments on Next 12.

It's also worth mentioning that Lumia 640 XL will be exclusive to AT&T in the United States. The carrier also confirmed the smartphone would be available in two color options: matte black and matte white.

Bigger display, better camera

Unlike the Lumia 640 that sports a 5-inch display, the Lumia 640 XL comes with a much larger 5.7-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display that supports HD (720p) resolution and features Corning Gorilla Glass 3 coating.

It also comes with an improved 13-megapixel camera on the back, which features Carl Zeiss lens, autofocus, LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording, as well as a 5-megapixel camera in the front for video calls and great selfies.

The smartphone ships with Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2 right out of the box and is fully compatible with Windows 10 Mobile Technical Preview.

“AT&T has proven to be the go-to carrier for Windows Phone devices. We are excited to add the Microsoft Lumia 640 XL to our industry leading Windows Phone lineup. Its large, high quality display makes it easy to do work and stay entertained when you’re on the move.

“For less than $10 per month on AT&T Next 24 you will get a high performing smartphone at a very affordable price on the nation’s most reliable 4G LTE network. What a great package,” said Jeff Bradley, senior vice president, Device Marketing and Developer Services, AT&T Mobility.
