Wireless mobile phone carrier AT&T has announced today the addition of yet another Samsung GoPhone to its lineup, the Samsung SCH-a167, after releasing the Samsung a177 QWERTY handset earlier this week, and after announcing that another messaging device from the South Korean phone maker would be added to its lineup, the Samsung Jack i637.

Unlike the Windows Mobile-powered smartphone, the new Samsung SCH-a167, or a167, comes to the operator as an ultra-basic mobile phone, which determined AT&T to add it to its pay-as-you-go offering as a GoPhone. The device sports a flip form factor, while also including dual-band GSM/GPRS connectivity (850/1900 MHz).

The specifications list of the Samsung a167 clamshell shows an internal CSTN display that can provide a 128 x 160 pixel resolution and support for 64K colors, a 1.3-megapixel photo snapper (which some say is only a VGA one), 2MB of internal storage space, speakerphone, TTY/TTD Compatible, and a compact design.

The new mobile phone also comes with a range of features like Text Messaging capabilities, coupled with Instant Messaging (support for AOL, Windows Live and Yahoo! Messenger), Mobile Email, Web browser, a series of productivity features like Calendar, Alarm clock, Call Waiting, Caller ID, Personal Organizer, Conference calling, Call Forwarding, and MEdia Net for wireless internet access.

The Samsung SCH-a167 measures 3.54 x 1.83 x 0.78 inches and weighs 3.1 ounces. It includes an 800 mAH battery that can offer up to 3 hours of talk time or up to 252 hours of standby time. The wireless carrier sells the handset for $69.99, with no contract agreement required, as anyone could imagine. The new Samsung SCH-a167 can be acquired from the operator's official website, where more information on it, as well as on other GoPhones the carrier is offering, is available.
