According to the latest news on the Web, AT&T is also getting ready to add to its offering the high-end Windows Mobile-powered HTC Touch Diamond2 and Touch Pro2, only that the mobile phone carrier plans to have them launched under different names, Warhawk and Fortress, respectively, so as to differentiate them from the versions that will go on sale with Sprint, Verizon, and T-Mobile.

The HTC Touch Pro2, or the Fortress, is reported to come around running under the Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.1 operating system, while also being eligible for upgrade to WinMo 6.5 as soon as the platform becomes available. The specification list of the Fortress includes full HSPA on three bands, AGPS connectivity, a 3.2-megapixel photo snapper with auto-focus and digital zoom, a 3.6-inch WVGA display, Bluetooth with A2DP, USB 2.0, and support for Video Share.

According to the documents that surfaced on Engadget Mobile, the handset would also be eligible for an update to the Windows Mobile 7 platform – “WM 7.X refresh awarded with Sept 09 launch date” – which suggests that the slide could be a little outdated, given the fact that the WinMo 6.5 platform is only expected to reach the market in November this year, while the WinMo 7 iteration should become available no sooner than next year. The phone should reach the market in the near future, as it seems that the targeted launch date was May 25.

As for the second Windows Mobile-based HTC handset coming to AT&T, the Warhawk (Touch Diamond2), it is expected to sport a 3.2-inch WVGA display, along with a 3.2-megapixel photo snapper with auto-focus and digital zoom, Bluetooth with A2DP, USB 2.0 connectivity, AGPS, dual-band HSDPA and support for Video Share. According to the leaked document, the handset should arrive with Windows Mobile 6.5 right from the start, but it will allow for an upgrade to WinMo 7 only if some hardware changes are operated. The release date for the handset seems to be August 24.
