Mobile phone carrier AT&T has reportedly started to deliver a new software update for some of its latest mobile phones, the Motorola ATRIX 4G and the HTC Inspire 4G, enabling their users to enjoy faster upload speeds.
Both these mobile phones were released on shelves with support for fast network connectivity, but their owners reported slow upload speeds and they even accused AT&T of crippling them.
The wireless carrier denied these allegations, and said that these handsets were never touted as offering HSUPA, but that a software update would enable the functionality on them.
And the said update is finally here. AT&T confirmed its release for the Inspire 4G, and, after saying that
Motorola ATRIX 4G will taste it soon, posted the necessary installation instructions on its website.
“Today, AT&T began to deploy an update for the HTC Inspire 4G that provides, among other features, the addition of enhanced uplink speed technology. (HSUPA). An update that adds HSUPA for the Motorola ATRIX 4G has cleared testing and will be deployed soon,” AT&T stated, BGR reports.
“Both updates will roll out to customers of both phones over the coming weeks. Users will get a message on their device notifying them of an update and to connect to Wi-Fi to download it. After downloading it, the user needs to only allow the update to automatically install.”
According to the wireless carrier,
Motorola ATRIX 4G owners would have to download and install two software packages on their devices, namely version update to 4.1.57, followed by version update to 4.1.83 (Android 2.2.2).
As soon as the update process has been completed, users would enjoy enhancements like:
- Improved multimedia experience with Bluetooth devices, and expanded headset compatibility.
- Improved fingerprint reader performance.
- Improved battery life.
- Display will turn off automatically now while charging directly on wall charger.
- Improved performance of car dock and 3.5mm jack
- 2G/EDGE mobile hotspot capability
- Increased potential data speeds
- Yahoo! E-mail enabled over Wi-Fi.
AT&T also notes that the software updates would be available via Wi-Fi only for the first 100 days. Full details on this update can be found on the carrier's website
