AT&T is one of the first US carriers to announce plans to offer one of the new Windows Phone 8.1 handsets launched by Nokia, the Lumia 635. T-Mobile and MetroPCS have also confirmed that they will carry the Lumia 635 LTE-enabled smartphone beginning this summer.

However, unlike these two carriers, AT&T has only mentioned that it will offer the Nokia Lumia 635 “this year,” which might mean it won’t arrive around the same timeframe as T-Mobile and MetroPCS versions.

Nevertheless, it’s good to know that the first devices sold in the United States with Windows Phone 8.1 operating system out of the box will be included in AT&T’s portfolio, one of the largest network operators in the country.

“AT&T was the first in the U.S. to deliver Nokia’s innovative line-up of Windows Phones, the first in the world to offer an LTE Windows Phone and currently offers the largest selection of Windows devices,” said Jeff Bradley, senior vice president – devices, AT&T.

Given the fact that Nokia has confirmed that its new flagship smartphone the Lumia 930 will not make it to the United States, the only new devices that carriers in the country can bring to their customers are the Lumia 630 and Lumia 635.

It appears that all US carriers will choose to offer the Lumia 635 over Lumia 630 due to the fact that the former comes with LTE support.

Although AT&T doesn’t offer any details on price tag, Nokia has announced that Lumia 635 will cost $190 (€140) off contract, so it should arrive at the US carrier for a similar price.

Considering the low price and the specs it offers, Lumia 635 may become one of the most popular Windows Phone devices in the United States.

For those unfamiliar with the Lumia 635’s specs, here is a quick recap. The budget-friendly smartphone is equipped with a 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, 512MB of RAM, 8GB of internal memory and microSD card slot (up to 128GB).

It also sports a 4.5-inch ClearBlack IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 coating, as well as 5-megapixel rear-facing camera that lacks LED flash.

“This innovative and affordable LTE capable smartphone features the new Windows Phone 8.1, Cortana personal assistant and a speedy quad-core processor. We strive to offer our consumers the widest choice of devices to fit any mobile lifestyle – all running on our voice and data network that covers more than 99 percent of all Americans,” concluded Bradley.
