The next-gen iPhone should be unveiled today

The next-generation iPhone is almost here, and wireless carrier AT&T is reportedly making the latest preparations for its arrival. Among the things that are being put in order now, we can count a series of changes made to the iPhone upgrade eligibility dates for more customers, in an attempt to make the new flavor of Apple's highly popular device available for as many users as possible.

This is not the first time AT&T makes this move. Previous reports on the matter unveiled the fact that the wireless carrier already changed the upgrade dates for a series of users, offering them the possibility to purchase a new device in June, about six months earlier than what the initial eligibility date showed. This time around, we learn that more users have seen their upgrade date modified so as to come in line with the near launch of the new iPhone version, at least this is what some of them are reporting.

Those AT&T customers who are interested in purchasing the next-gen iPhone device can head over to the carrier's website to verify their eligibility by clicking on “Check Upgrade Options” after logging in. Moreover, it seems that the eligibility status can be checked from the iPhone itself, by dialing *639#. According to appleinsider, eligible iPhone owners should receive the following message in this case, “As a valued customer, we can offer you an upgrade with a new 2-yr commitment and an $18 upgrade fee.”

Previously, AT&T stated that those users who spent more than $99-a-month per line should be able to upgrade to a newer device between 12 and 18 months into their contract. With WWDC 2010 keynote almost here, and with the new iPhone flavor expected to become official today, it does not come as a surprise that AT&T is trying to make the device available for as many people as possible. The WWDC 2010 Keynote is set to kick off at 10 a.m. Pacific time.
