A new mobile phone has been recently spotted at the Federal Communication Commission on its way to the airwaves of wireless carrier AT&T, namely the Samsung Infuse 4G.

The handset was officially introduced during the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, in early January, as the thinnest smartphone on its way to AT&T, while also sporting the largest touchscreen display, at 4.5-inches.

According to FCC documents (via Pocketnow), the device sports model number SGH-I997, and comes with support for 850/1900Mhz GSM / GPRS / EDGE / WCDMA / HSPA connectivity, which would make it fit for AT&T's network.

It's a common fact that AT&T has already announced plans to launch a wide range of new devices, which would provide users with fast download speeds on the carrier's upgraded network, and the Samsung Infuse 4G should be one of them.

The handset arrives on shelves with a 1.2 GHz applications processor packed inside, and a 4.5-inch Super-AMOLED Plus touchscreen display, which reportedly includes “50% more sub-pixels for better contrast and outdoor readability.”

The specifications list of the new device would also include Google's Android 2.2 Froyo mobile operating system, along with support for Google Mobile Services, and for applications available for download via the Android Market.

At the same time, the Samsung Infuse 4G should arrive on shelves with an 8-megapixel photo snapper on the back, with LED flash and HD video recording capabilities, as well as with a 1.2-megapixel camera on the front, for video calling.

No official info on the release date for this Android smartphone emerged for the time being, but it is expected to land sometime in the second quarter of the year, and the FCC approval it just received falls in line with that.

Undoubtedly, AT&T might soon step up and make a formal announcement on Samsung Infuse 4G's arrival, so keep an eye on this space for more details on the matter.
