AT&T and Samsung have just announced the upcoming availability of Galaxy Appeal mid-range Android phone. This is a pre-paid handset that will be retailed via Walmart stores beginning June 5.

Samsung Galaxy Appeal will be available for $149.99 (120 EUR) and is aimed at AT&T GoPhone customers. Keep in mind that the carrier plans to make the Galaxy Appeal available in all other AT&T GoPhone retail channels beginning July 15.

AT&T recommends customers who want to purchase the Galaxy Appeal to pair it with one of its new GoPhone smartphone plans and data packages: 1GB for $25 per month, 200MB for $15 per month or 50MB for $5 per month.

The carrier also notes that all data packages are available on the $50 Unlimited Talk & Text plan for GoPhone smartphones and the $25 Unlimited Text with 250 minutes GoPhone plan. In addition, these plans include unlimited Wi-Fi usage at AT&T Wi-Fi hotspots from the smartphone.

According to AT&T, this is its “first prepaid side slider smartphone.” In this regard, the Galaxy Appeal comes with a full slide-out QWERTY keyboard, allowing for faster and accurate texting and emailing.

Given the fact that this is a mid-range smartphone, it comes as no surprise that Galaxy Appeal is powered by Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system instead of a newer version.

Furthermore, the smartphone packs a mediocre 3-megapixel main photo snapper with 3x zoom and camcorder. It also has a 3.2-inch HVGA capacitive touchscreen display that supports 420 x 320 pixels resolution.

Hardware-wise, Samsung Galaxy Appeal is equipped with an 800 MHz Qualcomm MSM7225A processor, 512MB RAM, 1.8GB ROM and microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).

The phone’s 1300 mAh Li-Ion battery is rated by the manufacturer for up to 300 hours of standby time or up to 7 hours of talk time.
