Wireless services provider AT&T has just expanded the coverage of its 4G LTE network to 9 new markets, and it is expected to make the network available in 44 more areas before the end of this year.

Rumor has it that the expansion was fueled by the upcoming launch of Apple’s next iPhone model, which will arrive on shelves with support for the fourth-generation wireless connectivity.

AT&T has been the first wireless carrier to add the Apple iPhone to its offering, and it makes sense for it to make sure that it can deliver the best experience with the new model as well.

The newly performed network expansion includes markets such as Anchorage, Alaska; Bakersfield, Calif.; Bridgeport, Conn.; Jacksonville, Fla.; Modesto, Calif.; North Montgomery County, Md.; Northern New Jersey; Omaha, Neb.; and Syracuse, N.Y.

For those out of the loop, we should note that AT&T currently operates two 4G networks, one powered by HSPA+ technology, and another based on LTE (Long Term Evolution).

According to the wireless carrier, its 4G networks are capable of providing significant performance improvements when compared to the previously available 3G network, being up to 10 times faster.

In an attempt to provide as many users as possible with the possibility to take advantage of the faster speeds, the wireless carrier is also expected to expand said connectivity to an additional 44 markets in 2012.

The list of planned new AT&T LTE markets includes Albany, N.Y.; Albuquerque, N.M.; Allentown, Penn.; Charleston, S.C.; Cincinnati, Ohio; Columbia, S.C.; Columbus, Ohio; Detroit, Mich.; El Paso, Tex.; Fayetteville, N.C.; Ft. Myers, Fla.; Gary, Ind.; Grand Rapids, Mich.; Green Bay, Wis.; Harrisburg, Pa.; Hartford, Conn.; Hawaii; Knoxville, Tenn.; Lancaster, Pa.; Little Rock, Ark.; and Louisville, Ken.

Moreover, the network enhancement will also be delivered to users in Milwaukee, Wis.; Memphis, Tenn.; Nashua, N.H.; New Haven, Conn.; Philadelphia, Penn.; Pittsburgh, Penn.; Portland, Ore.; Providence, R.I; Reading, Pa.; Rochester, N.Y.; Sacramento, Calif.; Salinas-Seaside-Monterey, Calif.; Seattle, Wash.; Springfield, Mass.; Toledo, Ohio; Tucson, Ariz.; Tulsa, Okla.; Wilkes-Barre, Penn.; and Wilmington, Del.
