Mobile phone carrier AT&T has just announced that it has registered successful sales of the new iPhone 4S device from Apple. The smartphone was made available for purchase on Friday, October 14th, and the carrier says that they have already activated a number of over 1 million devices.

The new milestone makes the Apple iPhone 4S the fastest selling Apple device on AT&T's network.

“AT&T today announced it activated more than 1 million iPhone 4S’ as of Tuesday, making it the most successful iPhone launch in the company’s history,” the wireless carrier announced.

AT&T is also proud to note that they were the first wireless carrier in the world to launch the Apple iPhone, and that they are also the only operator in the US to support iPhone 4S with 4G capabilities (the 14Mbps connectivity the new device features).

“It’s no surprise that customers are clamoring for the iPhone 4S and they want it to run on a network that lets them download twice as fast as competitors’,” said Ralph de la Vega, President and CEO, AT&T Mobility & Consumer Markets.

For those out of the loop, we should note that Apple announced sales of 4 million iPhone 4S devices after the first weekend of availability, though pre-sales were also included in that number.

AT&T was one of the wireless carriers to have the new device on pre-order, and announced hundreds of thousands of reservations in only a few hours after the pre-order period for the new device kicked off.

“AT&T’s speed advantage, and the unique ability to talk and surf at the same time, has been roundly praised by industry pundits,” the mobile phone carrier announced.

The new device lands on shelves with a dual-core application processor inside, an 8MP camera on the back, and with global connectivity capabilities, though it maintains about all of the other features that the iPhone 4 model arrived on the market with.
