ASUSTeK Computer has joined today a long list of global industry leaders, as the Taiwanese company has just announced that it has purchased a Moore Microprocessor Patent (MMP) Portfolio license from the TPL group. In doing so, the giant manufacturer has become the 52nd MMP licensee, joining major companies such as Hewlett Packard, Fujitsu, Sony, Nokia and others that have acquired an MMP license in the past three years.

“We are pleased with ASUSTeK’s decision to purchase an MMP Portfolio license rather than continue in litigation,” said Mike Davis, senior vice president, Licensing for Alliacense. “This agreement is a further testament to the effectiveness of Alliacense’s business oriented approach to licensing.”

With the purchase, ASUS has basically gained access to a number of techniques that are said to enable higher-performance and lower-cost designs for a wide array of products, ranging from DVD players and communications infrastructure to medical equipment and automobiles, most of which are currently featured with a built-in microprocessor that delivers key features and benefits.

Alliacense is a TPL Group Enterprise company, executing design and implementation of Intellectual Property (IP) licensing programs. According to them, ASUS joins several other major industry players that have been encouraged by the design techniques of the MMP Portfolio to become licensees of the aforementioned portfolio.

The MMP Portfolio is widely recognized for providing significant technology that is currently used in microprocessors, microcontrollers, digital signal processors (DSPs), embedded processors and system-on-chip (SoC) devices, all of which are protected by Alliacense.

It is yet unclear if ASUS is planning to release a new product that will require the motherboard maker to take advantage of the technology that it has just bought. However, upcoming products from ASUS, such as optical drives, portable music players or other digital and commercial digital systems are likely to benefit from the techniques that are available within the MMP Portfolio.
