ASUS was once known as a manufacturer of computer platforms and graphics cards, but, with the success of its Eee PC line of products, the Taiwanese company has been expanding its market presence into some other segments. On that note, it appears that the company is preparing to launch another new product that will compete with an existing one, coming from Acer. The said product is reportedly titled ASUS Home Server TS Mini and will likely turn out to be an alternative to Acer's Aspire H340 home server solution.

Details on the new device have just surfaced on the Internet with a couple of pictures and specifications, letting us compare the upcoming product with Acer's current offering. According to a recent news article on 'We Got Served,' the said ASUS Home Server TS Mini has adopted an Intel Atom platform, similar to that of Acer's Aspire H340, only with a couple of differences in the processing power. While the Aspire H340 comes equipped with an Atom 230, 1.6GHz CPU, the leaked ASUS home server boasts the 1.66GHz Atom N280 processor.

Aside from that, the ASUS Home Server is built on Intel's 945GSE+ICH7-M platform, boasting support for up to 2GB of DDR2-800 memory and can be equipped with up to two 3.5-inch SATA hard disk drives. The storage solution is also featured with six USB 2.0 ports, two eSATA connectors and one Kensington-Lock.

According to specifications, the ASUS Home Server TS Mini measures in at 245 x 96 x 204mm (H x W x D) and weighs just 2.6kg, without any disks. The solution is lighter and thinner than Acer's product, and can only be equipped with two 3.5-inch drives, compared with the four drive bays available on the Aspire H340.

Unfortunately, we have no details on the solution's pricing and availability at this time, but more should be revealed when ASUS is ready to take the official wraps off the said device.
