According to the latest news on the web, Asustek Computer, one of the world's largest notebook suppliers, is getting ready to release a fresh series of mobile machines supposed to come under the name “Omega”. The product family is said to be aiming at the entry-level consumers, and is expected to complement in a way the company's Eee PC netbooks in the market of affordable mobile personal computers.

The fresh Asus Omega notebook family is supposed to feature price tags ranging from $600 to $900, states a news-story from the Chinese-language Apple Daily newspaper, cited by DigiTimes. According to the paper, the personal computer vendor expects the lineup of affordable notebooks to boast its position on the market segment, as well as on the entire PC market area. As previously reported, the company plans to strengthen its position on the market during next year.

The news says that Asustek is planning to ship no less than eight million Asus Omega mobile machines during 2009. No specific information on the future series of notebooks has been unveiled to the Web. Moreover, the fact that the Omega series would be aiming at the mainstream market is a relatively new strategy for Asustek, and has managed to raise suspicion.

It is a common fact that Asustek has always been focusing on selling high-end notebooks. As soon as the plans for the Omega series emerged to the web, rumors about Asustek's intentions to go for the mainstream market segment also surfaced. As the mainstream laptop market offers rather low profit margins, the company has left the segment aside, although its very affordable, yet low-performance, Asus Eee PC netbooks have seen a wide adoption among users.

The personal computer maker has made no comments related to the news-story so far.
