ASUS was the first device maker to release on the market a smartphone with 4GB of RAM on board, during the early days of 2015. Other manufacturers followed suit soon, but ASUS promised it would keep the price tag of the device as affordable as possible.

Last month, we told you we spotted the ASUS ZenFone 2 with 5.5-inch 1080p display, 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage on Amazon with a price tag starting at $381 / €343 and up.

Well, if you haven’t had the chance to grab an ASUS ZenFone 2 unit until now, we have some good news for you. Online retailer AliExpress has announced a flash sale for the model, which will be available one day only, on May 7.

The version offered on promotion is the 5.5-inch ASUS ZenFone 2 with model number ZE551ML, which brings 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage, the most high-end configuration ASUS has to offer.

So, on May 7, as part of this special promotion, you will be able to grab the phone with a retail price of just $336 / €302. This version would normally cost you $449 / €404, so the discount is quite considerable.

This is an interesting decrease in pricing, and ASUS might be resorting to this method because Lenovo just announced a reputable competitor in the form of the K80. The Chinese company’s handset made a debut with a 5.5-inch 1080p display (1920 x 1080 pixel resolution) and an 64-bit Intel Atom processor clocked at 1.8GHz, fitted with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage.

Lenovo is selling this phone for a super affordable $290 / €261, which will surely attract a lot of customers. Couple that with the fact that the Lenovo offering has a camera taking advantage of Optical Image Stabilization and a chunkier 4,000 mAh battery, and you’ll understand ASUS’ move.

The Taiwanese phone maker might have felt the pressure of the competition and saw fit to lower the price tag. On the other hand, the Lenovo phone is not yet on sale, so if you really want a 4GB phone in your life, you might want to try your luck on May 7.
