14 DAY TRIAL // A few days ago we told you the ASUS ZenFone 2 was confirmed to be getting a new 5-inch edition with lower specs and cheaper price, although the specifics weren't revealed in full.
The original ZenFone 2 will be offered with a 5.5-inch display and was actually the first phone to be announced with 4GB of RAM.
At CES 2015, the Taiwanese company said it would offer the phone for the starting price of $200 / €175 although they probably referred to a 2GB version.
Well, a few days after the 5-inch ZenFone 2 was spotted into the wild, we are able to provide you with the full list of specifications, so you can know what to expect.
The ASUS ZenFone 2 with 5-inch display revealed
According to the Android Soul, the 5-inch ZenFone 2 will arrive in the wild with model number ZE500CL and offer a Gorilla Glass 3-protected display with 1280 x 720 pixel resolution.
Under the hood lies an Intel Clover Trail Z2560 (previous generation) chip clocked at 1.6GHz fitted with 2GB of RAM. It's a notable difference, compared to the 5.5-inch model which packs a 64-bit Intel Atom Z3580 processor clocked at 2.33GHz.
The smaller ZenFone 2 will also bundle an 8MP/2MP camera combo and a 2,500 mAh battery on the inside. Like its larger brother, it will run Android 5.0 Lollipop, so you’ll be off the hook update-wise, at least for the time being.
The report continues to say that the 5-inch ZenFone 2 will be priced around $199 / €175 which is a bit puzzling given the fact that the larger version (with 2GB of RAM) is also expected to hit retail for a similar amount of cash.
It might be possible that ASUS doesn't plan to market the smaller ZenFone in international markets and is keeping it strictly for Asia.
At the moment, we don’t really know when the device will go on sale. As for the fully-fledged model, the phone is anticipated to make a debut in Taiwan on March 9.
The 5-inch ZenFone 2 doesn't impress too much in terms of specifications, but its compact form-factor might attract a number of customers on board.
