News of the first consumer laptops running on the freshly squeezed Intel Broadwell platform have started to emerge and ASUS is leading the ranks.

According to Notebook Italia, ASUS prepping the X555 line of colorful laptops which arrive with a clean finish look to them.

The laptops should be measuring 328 x 256 x 26 mm / 12.9 x 10 x 1.02 inches and weigh about 2.3kg / 5 lbs, making for quite portable products.

As can be spotted in the photos posted by Italian publication, the laptops will be available with bright paint jobs including red and yellow.

Moving along from the aesthetic qualities, which you can check out for yourselves in the gallery, the ASUS X555 line will be offered in 14-inch and 15.6-inch formats boasting HD screen (sadly, there’s no mention of full HD).

ASUS will throw in NVIDIA’s GeForce GT 820 or GT 840M. While for the time being, ASUS will be offering the laptops with Intel Core i3/i5/i7 processor options, a Broadwell version is expected to arrive on the market in a few months, hopefully in time for the holiday season.

If not, the wider availability of Broadwell into consumer products has been promised for 2015.

But until that happens, the Haswell versions will be fitted with a maximum of 8GB of RAM and storage solution with different capacities from 320GB to 1TB.

According to the information we currently have, the ASUS X555 shouldn't sell for exorbitant rates, but that remains to be seen.

Moving away from internal specifications, the X555 also includes two USB 3.0 ports, one USB 2.0, VGA, HDMI, audio jack for headphone, microphone, SD card reader, RJ-45 plug connecting to wired networks and attachment for the Kensington lock.

Furthermore, you can expect to find an optical drive DVD Super Multi, HD webcam and a 2-cell 38Wh battery.

ASUS also throws in an ASUS SonicMaster audio system, Smart Gesture touchpad and bundles Ice Cool technology so the lappy won’t heat up especially in the palm rest area.

For the time being, we know the ASUS X555 will make it onto the market by the end of June, but we don’t have any pricing specifications. As for the Broadwell variant, there’s no time scheme, but we’ll update when that information comes.

In the upcoming months, we can expect a host of announcements related to Broadwell-based products. At Computex 2014, Intel already showcased a tablet/laptop reference with a super skinny form factor, in 12.5-inch and 10-inch flavors. Except the avalanche soon!
