ASUS just introduced an ultrathin laptop but, as it often does, the company thought it would address multiple markets at the same time. This once, it decided to take on LG on the 3D display front. Just a short time ago, the latter came out and unveiled the W63D, a 23-inch 120Hz monitor priced at 330 Euro. The invention that ASUS has on hand is known as the VG236H and, though it has the same screen size, appears to be aimed the consumer segment just above the one LG targeted.

The liquid crystal display obviously has a refresh rate of 120 Hz, since this is the minimum required for 3D rendering (60 Hz for each eye). The actual specifications are nothing to be frowned upon either. For one, the native resolution of this panel itself is 1920 x 1080 pixels, which means that Full HD video quality is supported. Also, the response time is a striking 2ms (GTG). Even the dynamic contrast ratio makes it all the way up to 100,000:1. Granted, this isn't exactly on par with the 12,000,000 that Acer's B-series, for instance, feature, but it is still quite noteworthy for a 3D panel.

In addition to a good aspect ratio, the panel has the advantage of a decent level of brightness, 400 cd/m2 to be exact. ASUS even threw in the Splendid Video Intelligence Technology, which actually enhances color fidelity through five pre-set modes. These modes are quite self-explanatory and are meant to optimize the viewing experience for standard operation, night view, theater, gaming and scenery. As for connectivity to video output devices, the company implemented DVI and HDMI inputs.

ASUS' VG236H 3D display can already be acquired in a bundle with the NVIDIA 3D Vision kit by visiting this page. It has a price tag of £380.36, the equivalent of $580.59.
