ASUS has made available a new firmware package targeted at two of its routers, namely version 3.0.0.4.374.4887 beta compatible with the RT-AC68R and RT-AC68U devices, which includes several changes that will increase the units’ security level.

Specifically speaking, this new update resolves vulnerabilities regarding the parameters buffer overflow, XSS (Cross Site Scripting), and CSRF (Cross Site Request Forgery), adds an auto logout function (can be adjusted to the desired values), and includes some network map-related patches.

Aside from the above-mentioned security changes, firmware 3.0.0.4.374.4887 also improves the Centrino 6300 connection speed, fixes various Samba-related issues, resolves the Cloud sync problem, and adds various workarounds for the Parental control check box UI errors.

Moreover, the media server setting UI has been modified, the FTP/Samba permission setting UI has been changed, Dual wan failover now supports the failback feature, and the 3G/LTE dongle setting process has also been adjusted.

As for installing this version, get and expand the proper downloadable archive, log into the router’s configuration page, select the firmware version link, and click on the “Choose File” button.

Now browse and select the firmware file from within the newly created folder, click “Upload,” and wait patiently for the router to apply the new firmware (it takes about 3 minutes to complete).

Still, bear in mind that this release is a beta version, therefore ASUS cannot be held responsible for any related damage, and it will be applied at your own risk.

That being said, download ASUS RT-AC68 Router Firmware 3.0.0.4.374.4887 Beta, take into account all the above-mentioned aspects, apply the new firmware version, and enjoy your newly updated device.
